My name is Wren, and I’m the idealist behind this community. The idea for Soda City Reads came at a time when I was desperate to read more, but to also involve others in the reading experience. I decided to start a hashtag on Instagram (as one does), that turned into its own account, that has now turned into a blog. My goal is simply to meet more readers in Columbia like myself, or unlike myself (diversity is a virtue), so that I can become better acquainted with my own city.
So who am I?
I’m 28. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA in English and a distinction in writing. I currently work as a marketing assistant at Synovus. And I am an insatiable bibliophile. That I work in finance is actually mind-boggling considering that finance is nothing like what I wanted, or even imagined, myself doing as a college freshman. But I love getting to work in Downtown Columbia. I love the texture and the culture of our little city. It’s part of what inspired this whole thing to begin with. I loved Columbia and I loved books and I wanted a way to combine those two things to become more integrated in the community. Sometimes I think that Soda City Reads was an inevitability.
But I have work to do.
THERE’S SO MUCH I WANT TO DO. I have so many ideas and I want to do everything RIGHT NOW, but I know how that will turn out. So for now, you can join the Soda City Reads community on Goodreads, follow the site on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and share your bookish pics around the city with the #SodaCityReads hashtag on your preferred social media network. Meanwhile, I’ll be over here perusing the web for the Goodreads community’s Summer book selection, which I’ll announce on Thursday, June 21st.
Thank you so much for stopping and learning more about my love project.
